Visit to W Retreat & Spa!
I was delighted to be invited to visit W Retreat & Spa for the second time. I couldn’t wait to see the changes they would have done within 2 years time. My colleague Thaapi and I have been to the resort before but this is the first time for Vidhu and she was very excited. It's her first time traveling in a Seaplane as well and her excitement was over flowing when she knew that we would be spending a night there.
DAY 1
It was a sunny day here Maldives! Clear skies and calm seas, me & my colleagues checked in at the Maldives Air Taxi terminal at sharp 11:30 as soon as we checked in we were taken to the W lounge in MAT terminal and there we were provided with pastries and drinks whilst we waited for the Seaplane to be ready for the departures.
However the departure was delayed a little but there hospitality didn’t let us feel like we were sitting there for more than we should have.
Once we reached to the lounge the guy who came with us asked to take our picture with the ‘W’ statue in front of the lounge. After a while I knew that it’s their signature move.
We took off around 2pm it was a 20 minutes scenic seaplane ride and the seaplane was actually bound for Mayafushi, However as soon as we got there the Boat crew of W retreat was already waiting for us. It took only 5 minutes to get to W from Mayafushi.
The first thing I noticed even before I got off the speedboat was the waving staffs all in height order in the welcoming deck. This has been kind of a ritual of theirs from the very start, they would be standing in the height order and waving to us as soon as they see the speed boat and they would do the same with the departures. This I found very welcoming, sweet and different!
We were warmly greeted by Solih there sales and marketing manager along with other staffs then after a little chat with refreshing drinks and cold towels we were escorted to our rooms on a buggy by solih himself, this time we were accommodated in a Beach oasis as we all wanted so that we can experience both the categories.
As soon as we got into the room all we did was a little inspection of the room, it has become a habit now ever since I joined Scaevola travel!
We took like 15 minutes to get fresh and then we had the inspection!
We started the tour with the Spa (Away spa) they only have 4 luxurious treatment rooms and they have their own brand of spa amenities, they offer a wide range of therapies from Facial’s to Yoga treatments.
After the tour of Spa we then went to see the Ocean Oasis, I remember the first time I ever visited W we stayed in an Ocean Oasis and the rooms haven’t changed a bit the same heavenly luxurious way it was with the fiber optimized infinity pools in the pavilion which is to die for.
Afterwards we went to see all the restaurants, I would say every single restaurant is different from each other totally different themes, after touring the restaurants we went to check the highly equipped gym where they have all the equipments in the world and then the recreational area where they have a pool table, table tennis and a library plus many more others, there is almost everything for every age.
Then we had to postpone the rest of the tour, as the rooms weren’t available that day!
We headed back to our rooms around 4pm to get ready for drinks in the evening at Fish Bar before we head out for dinner in Fire restaurant!
Me and my collogues made the best use of the little free time we had before we got ready for drinks and dinner at Fish bar, we went into the pool, roamed around our room which was double decked and had a Maldivian swing up in the rooftop, took picture here and there, raided the sweet corner. Oh! I almost forgot, a sweet corner is a little fridge in different spots of the island, with different types of Ice creams including magnums and soft drinks… and is complimentary!
We were ready by 5:50 and headed out for Fish Bar to meet solih and Fahvaz, there we sat in the pavilion watching the sunset chatting about the resort brand and he offered us a new snack they were promoting in the Fish bar which was mad by oysters and I must say I liked it, very different!
We watched the sun go down and I would say it was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen in a long time, the colors were mesmerizing very very relaxing, after the sun went down we headed to Fire Restaurant for dinner where they had a Mongolian theme night set, we had to choose the type of meant we would want to have they had varieties from prawns to beef and pork and we had to choose how we want them to be done either from BBQ to pot cooked. . I ate a Mongolian chicken noodles. It was very nice and delicious. The dinner was perfect and very fun.
We had a long relaxing fun dinner, with the most different desert that I have ever had, frozen mango with different type of berries but I have to admit that I loved it, however I get allergies to berries so after finishing the dinner I excused myself and had to run back to the room to take the medicine which I normally carry around cause I cannot help myself when it comes to food no matter if I get all puffy!
After taking my medicine I joined all my colleagues solih and fahvas at 9pm at 15 Below their underground disco and bar .The entrance is very unique and very different. I was curious like where does this door goes.! The one of a kind and only and the very first underground disco and bar in Maldives, there we just relaxed had a few drinks and danced the night away, one of the best DJ was in the house spinning all the latest top tunes!
However we headed back to our room around 11pm as we were all very much tired and and on our way had another ice-corn and a chocolate, as we got to our room we did a little photo shoot of our own just for fun then watched a little TV. . The room had free Wi-Fi available. So I used internet for a while and was up until very late having fun with my friends and I don’t even know how I fell asleep!
I almost forgot, when we went back to the room we found the picture we took in the terminal with the 'W' statue framed and kept in our room as a gift for us to remember our trip to the resort. We gave it to our colleague Thaapi as it was her the last trip.
DAY 2
Next morning woke up with a huge grin on my face, took a shower, got ready and we all headed out for breakfast at their main restaurant Kitchen, beautiful restaurant with a lot of varieties to choose from, I was so stuffed that I could hardly get up from the chair but then again we had the rest of the inspection to do that day!
Solih & Fahvas met us in the lounge and then we took off in the buggy to see the rest of the room categories, Seascape Escape and Ocean heaven, Seascape Escape has two bedrooms one master bed room & one kids room can accommodate upto 6 people altogether and in Ocean heaven they have a kitchenette an oversized infinity edge plunge pool, two rooms one mater bed room and one twin bed room can accommodate upto 8 people at the same time.
At the time we were done with the inspection our transfer back to male’ was ready, I literally mad a plan of hiding behind a tree till the seaplane leaves cause I really didn’t want to come back to male’, however as much as I want I cannot live there but does not mean that If I get that chance I wouldn’t think of it ..hehe!
However in the hopes of going back to W retreat someday soon I boarded the seaplane thanking Solih, Fahvas and all the other staffs who made it the best inspection which felt like a holiday for me!
I would say W retreat & spa is sheer heaven on earth with the best and the friendliest of staffs I have ever met, if you visit W once I assure you, you would want to visit W over & over again! This was a trip I will never forget. W Retreat is one of my favorite resorts. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank W Retreat for the warm welcome and for inviting us over there. They have been truly amazing throughout the whole trip.
